The last couple of days
Sunday saw me awake well before I wished so decided have a walk around Gun Hill to see if any spring migrants were present. Not a migrant but a pair of Green Woodpeckers was a first for myself there. Quite a few Redpoll knocking around as well. Red grouse count turned up 10 in the short time I was there but the Willow Warbler trebled that many do move on but some great battles for territory at the moment, only Meadow Pipits could better there numbers.Common Tits, Goldcrest, Reed Bunting, Wrens, Chaffinches all laying claim to areas and a couple of pairs of Skylark too.
Rudyard this morning in dreadful rain in the hope of Arctic Tern they seem to be hitting the midlands in some numbers today. No luck and gave up after my lenses were dripping. 4 Oystercatcher, 2 LBB Gull, Cormorant and a LRP were present. and 16 Great Crested Grebes just down the shallows. Redstart was heard but not seen as was Blackcap.
